Poll

he provincial Liberals may be miffed, after all this is a terribly unscientific poll...not nearly as reliable as, say, the Trail Shop's Crocs poll. However, since its results don't concern them and since I have nothing better to blog inanely about this morning I shall continue with my plans.

A few weeks ago this very conversation took place:

Alex: If you had a superpower, what would it be?
Adam: Deductive reasoning.

For the record, deductive reasoning is using general knowledge to infer specific details, as opposed to INductive reasoning, which is using specifics to figure out larger patterns. Or is it the other way around?

Anyway, what would your superpower be? Feel free to make up a superhero name for yourself as well - superhero names are tasty.

Oh, and anyone who reads this blog and never comments (this means you, Mary Ann!) is also welcome to take part in this very important research.

May I also point out the fledgling World Cup discussion taking place in the comment board for yesterday's post. Since, you know, people like sports and stuff.

Okay, since it was specifically mentioned that I read but never post, here is my trying-to-do-this-at-work-without-detection-off-the-top-of-my-head comment.

I would like to vote - in fact I always do, generally for the same party out of habit. Being relatively un-politically educated and more than a little cynical (understatement-du-jour), I have been playing around with perhaps trying a little harder (must be your influence, Alex).

So, quick comments: Why is the Green Party an official party with a full slate of candidates and yet they have no signs - anywhere - and are not included in ANY polls? And how exactly could they possibly expect us to believe that they will do EVERYTHING the voter has ever asked for, up to and including keeping a balanced budget (???) Are Nova Scotians really that gullible?

I just followed a link to an NDP article "Backgrounder on Platform Costing". Last item on a short but very expensive list is "Live Within our Means" ... $7.25 million. (???) This is comedy, right?

haha well, I believe the word "politics" comes from the Greek "politik" meaning "to bullshit." That IS terribly amusing and yet so sad.

Anyway, the Green Party is still at that point in their development where, frankly, nobody really takes them seriously. And in fact, I read an article in the paper today about how some environmental something (ok, so I skimmed it, not read it) rated the parties' environmental platforms and the NDP rated higher than the Greens. That said, I don't know the specifics of this rating so i can't comment on its accuracy.

I guess one can claim to "balance the budget" while affording these things as long as we're making minimum payments on the debt - not really a viable option, but it would fit within the confines of the rhetoric. Or everybody could pay more taxes. Or the government could refrain from paying $500 apiece for silly hats for the clerks and House Speaker to wear.

It really is ridiculous sometimes. i think that's why I love it...but the important point here is, what would your superpower be?

No, no, no- Politics

From poli, meaning "many"
And ticks, meaning "bloodsucking insects"

As for superpowers, I think it would be cool to have the ability to snap my fingers and have the world suddenly start singing and dancing as if it were a musical. Naturally, another click of the fingers and everything would go back to normal as if nothing had ever happened. It could really liven up class sometimes!

I could be the rock-opera Phantom!

Eeep, used the wrong brackets there... Oh, well... Pretend it's in italics...

Heh.

That 'some environmental something' was 60 Nova Scotian environmental organizations.

The NDP got an A
The Greens got a B
The Liberals a C
And the PC's a surprizingly strong D.
